The CLBDI Community Hub
Welcome to the CLBDI community page! This is where you will find all of our communal links, conversation, shared stories and our social media feeds. It will be an organic endeavour that will be constantly shifting as we grow. We wanted to create a place where you can catch up on all things CLBDI and join the conversation. This page is for everyone who visits the site to share. Furthermore, this page is a safe and supportive space where people can connect and share their experiences as a community. It will be monitored and moderated to ensure kindness, civility and open discussion.
We will also be sharing all of our social media feeds and information on what's happening with CLBDI both online and in our city. We are aware that some people do not use social media so we wanted to create an online space that allows you to follow us and join in the conversation without needing to create an account. The P.E.I. Project
Unfortunately, due to injury, the walk across P.E.I. is now over. Here are some words of gratitude from our founder:
"To my friends and supporters,
I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who helped me after I injured myself on the trail.
First to thank is Jean McCardle, my bed and breakfast host, who lives in the charming Victoria-by-the Sea. I spent many days with her. She is a wonderful woman. During my stay, she kept an eye on me, shared her wonderful company, found a massage therapist for me, and took me to some very interesting venues.
Also, a major thanks to Mr. Kendrick of Island Experiences and drivers Ann and Bill Jamieson who were most helpful.
Here in Waterloo, I would like to thank my health team who saw me this past Monday and Tuesday. Thank you to my excellent MT Steve Foley, my chiropractor Dr. K. Moeller, and Dr. M. Torreiter who did acupuncture on me and set me up with Eric Bauman for the afternoon. He is my physiotherapist. I will continue to see them in the next few weeks until I am healed.
I also want to thank the 3 sets of folks, two in PEl and one here, who gave me cash donations for the fundraiser after I had injured myself. I am so, so grateful for your kindness. Merci Mille Fois.
Thanks to Dr. S. Pasternak, as well, for emailing me to lend his support regarding my injury.
Upon arriving home, I was diagnosed with Gluteal Tendinopathy in my hip. I will have to take the utmost care to adhere to the program Eric set out for me so that I can heal. He said it can take anywhere from a month to three months for complete healing. My movement is limited but I can still do short, light swims and two short walks daily at a “moseying” pace.
I will continue to work on healing this ol' left hip of mine so that I can hopefully walk some in our local area as an alternative in the future.
I also want to thank my amazing LBD partner, Joe Daniel, for his constant support as well as members of my family and all my wonderful friends.
As ever,
Carol"
Instead of creating an online fundraiser, Carol hopes you will donate to Dr. Pasternak's LBD research at UWO. We will be updating our donation totals bi-weekly throughout May and June, so there is still time to show your support.

"The Second CLBDI Online Art Show" & Live CLBDI Event at Three Sisters Cultural Centre - Online and In-Person Art Show and Fundraiser - July to October, 2022
Summary coming soon.
"Our Emotional Journey With Lewy Body Dementia" - Online Art Show and Fundraiser - March 26th to April 30th, 2021
Artist's Statement
I began this project in 2019, though it had many stops and starts. This project was a way for me to process what had happened and how Lewy Body Dementia was destroying my beloved husband Bob’s brain. I also needed to wrestle with my own emotions and help my husband as the disease ravaged his brain and body. He, however, taught us so much whilst battling LBD. Dignity, grace and humour were his constant companions. I also learned to endure as he did. After his death on Feb.8th, 2020, the last 5 paintings helped me work through the pain of loss, anger, disbelief, bewilderment and a whole host of other emotions which came in waves and, at other times, were fleeting.
I love to paint; it is my go-to art form. I love the colours, the challenges of bringing what I feel, observe and think to the canvas. I hope these paintings will allow others to know the effect and affect of this terrible disease and how Lewy Body Dementia affects the entire family.
I dedicate this project to My Lewy Warrior; Bob and all those who have and are battling LBD.
I also dedicate this project to all the excellent medical folks who are caring for LBD patients and doing so much LBD for research.
Last, but never least, I dedicate this project to family and all those on my Lewy Body Dementia team.
Thank you.

"Carol has been a valued student and friend for years. I admire what she has accomplished by mounting this show and by successfully expressing, through her art, the depth of emotion involved in supporting her soul mate through his difficult journey."
Podi Lawrence (Visual Artist)
"I first met Carol & Bob 2000 after I moved to Canada from the UK. She attended one of my classes and I have seen her grow as an artist since then. These latest paintings say so much about the agonizing years that she has recently gone through. Painting is a beautiful way to deal with stress. I look forward to seeing her future work as she comes out of the pain barrier. Hopefully we will meet again when we have learnt to cope with the Pandemic. Love."
Merlin McRae
"Carol what a wonderful tribute to Bob. Your work is very inspirational."

Final Thoughts
"There are many ways to demonstrate and say "thank you". I would like to thank first, my excellent and most creative web administrator, Joe Daniel, for his compassion, dedication and excellent work as our LBD administrator. I would also like to thank my son, Morgan Beare for his excellent photography of all my paintings. I am so grateful for the wonderful comments about my LBD art project. It was a labour of love, as well as a challenge. It was also cathartic. I would like to thank the persons who so enjoyed my paintings that they bought one. That is a great thrill and acknowledgment to an artist and the work sh/he produces. Each painting sold was also an honour to my LBD warrior, Bob. He always encouraged me in my endeavours. I started this project in 2019 so Bob did get to see my first few paintings. I would take photos and bring them to him. For a variety of reasons, I did not paint for many months and the project slowed to a halt. However, the need to complete this project urged me to finish it this March 2021. I would be remiss if I did not thank my art instructors, Alan Daniel and Podi Lawrence, without whose encouragement and excellent critiques, this project would have faltered. The proceeds of each sale have already been allocated to the LBD research fund. So, thank you for being part of helping Dr. S.Pasternak and his LBD research team. Merci mille fois." - Carol Schmidt
